چکیده

In 1952, Jean Louis Lortat-Jacob undertook the first successful extended right hepatectomy. It was pioneering surgery. Improvement in liver resection has been achieved in the past decade. Among other factors, a gradual change of technology, platforms and refinement of surgical techniques have played significant roles. In this review, the various surgical approaches, operative techniques, operative instruments and adjunctive measures as applied in liver resection are described, along with discussion of the pros and cons of each of these attributes. A brief description of laparoscopic liver resection is also included to address this important and emerging area in liver surgery.

مقایسه درمان رادیوتراپی به روش قراردادی و سه بعدی در بیماران مبتلا به کانسر معده

Background: The current standard of adjuvant management for gastric cancer after curative resection based on the results of intergroup 0116 is concurrent chemoradiation. Current guidelines for designing these challenging fields still include two-dimensional simulation with simple AP-PA parallel opposed design. However, the implementation of radiotherapy (RT) remains a concern. Our objective was...

Ex situ liver resection for unresectable tumors.

Primary and secondary liver tumors are among the most common tumors in humans. Two surgical approaches may be used to address these tumors: liver transplantation and liver resection. However, some tumors cannot be treated by conventional techniques or liver transplantation due to poor intraoperative exposure, limitations of indication standards, and/or other complex factors. To overcome these p...

Current controversies in the surgical management of colorectal cancer metastases to the liver.

Surgical resection offers the best opportunity for cure in patients with colorectal cancer metastasis to the liver, with 5 year survival rates of up to 58% following resection. However, only a small percentage of patients are eligible for resection at the time of diagnosis and the average recurrence rate is still high. Consequently, research endeavors have focused on methods aimed at increasing...

Hepatic resection with in situ hypothermic perfusion is superior to other resection techniques.

Through the years, liver resection and bleeding control techniques have progressively evolved. However, for liver tumors located unfavorably, the standard techniques are not suitable due to either failure to control the bleeding or to liver ischemia induced by prolonged interruption of perfusion. In this regard, total vascular exclusion (TVE) with in situ hypothermic perfusion is advantageous a...

Effect of different liver resection methods on liver damage and regeneration factors VEGF and FGF-2 in mice.

BACKGROUND Different approaches to study liver regeneration in murine models have been proposed. We investigated the effect of different liver resection models on liver damage and regeneration parameters in mice. METHODS We compared the technical aspect of the 2 most commonly used techniques of 50% and 70% liver resection. Liver damage, as determined by the change in serum alanine aminotransf...
